🧘♂️ Calm + Assertive: The Secret to Classroom Calm
Oct 11, 2025Have you tried tips from videos, but they don’t work with your class? You might be missing the “it” factor—your presence. The good news: you can learn it!
🌟 What Is “It”?
-
Calm = steady voice, steady body. (Not boring.)
-
Assertive = clear expectations. (Not mean.)
🛠️ How to Use It
-
🎯 Set the standard: “When I say, ‘Eyes up here, please,’ I expect silence and attention.”
-
🗣️ Short scripts: “Up here, please.” “Thank you.”
-
🧍 Body language: Stand tall, face the class, pause.
-
⏱️ Wait 5–10 seconds: Let the room adjust before you speak again.
-
🔁 Be consistent: Same rule, every time.
-
✅ Give choices, not threats: “Phone to me, or office—your choice.”
🧩 My Quick Routine
-
Signal: “Everybody up here, please.”
-
Count to 10 quietly.
-
If talking continues, apply your system (e.g., a point to “Teacher” in Teacher vs. Students).
-
Acknowledge success: “Nice reset—thank you.”
💡 Why It Works
-
Students feel safe with routines.
-
You stay in control without yelling.
-
The class learns your clear, steady expectations.
🔑 Remember: Calm + Assertive is a skill, not a talent. Practice it daily, and your classroom will grow more focused and respectful—one routine at a time. 🙌
