🎒 First Day Classroom Tips That Build Comfort and Confidence

The first day of school is your chance to set the tone. Here are some strategies to make students feel welcome while keeping the room organized.

👋 Greet and Direct

• Meet students at the door.

• Give clear instructions for where to put backpacks and where to sit.

🪑 Learn Names Quickly

• Use a seating activity that helps match names to faces.

• Call a name, have the student move to their assigned seat, and repeat.

🗣 Give Options for Participation

• Not every student is comfortable speaking in class.

• Let them know participation is encouraged but not forced.

⭐ Reward Engagement

• Keep a clipboard to track “participation points.”

• Give points for answering questions or making contributions.
