📝 How to Make Lesson Planning Simple

Oct 25, 2025

Teaching can feel overwhelming. A normal school year has 150 hours of class time. That’s a lot to plan! When I first started teaching, I had no idea where to begin. My lessons weren’t great, and I wished someone had given me a simple system.

Here’s what I learned after 20+ years:

1️⃣ Start with Two Questions

  • What do you have to teach? 📚

  • How will you teach it? 🧠

Look at your curriculum, pacing guide, and standards. Break the big topics into units that last 2–3 weeks. For example, one history unit might be the Revolutionary War.

2️⃣ Use a Plug-and-Play System

Instead of planning from scratch, create a routine you can reuse. My system includes:

  • 🎥 EdPuzzles – videos with questions

  • 📝 Notes – same format, new info each unit

  • 🎲 Activities – like drawing maps or escape rooms

  • 🏆 Games – for review before tests

  • 📖 Tests – wrap up each unit

I use the same structure every time. Only the content changes.

3️⃣ Keep It Simple at First

Don’t worry about every teaching buzzword right away. Focus on building lessons that work. Over time, you’ll find what your students love and make it part of your routine.

With a plug-and-play system, lesson planning becomes easy and less stressful!
