🤫 How to Quiet a Noisy Class

Have you ever worked hard on a lesson, only to have students talking over you? Some kids are focused, but others are distracting the whole class. So—how do you get everyone’s attention?

👏 Attention Getters
Teachers use different tricks:

• 👏 Clap, Clap (students repeat)

• 💦 Waterfall call and response

• 🎶 “Classy, Class!” → “Yes, Yes!”

These can all work. But the key is not the trick itself—it’s that you hold students accountable to your expectation.

📋 My Strategy: Teacher vs. Student
Here’s what I use. I simply say: “Everybody up here, please.” Then I wait 10 seconds. If anyone is still talking, I give myself a point on the board under “Teacher.” The class starts each day with 6 points. If they stay on task, they keep them. If they cause distractions, I take points.

🎁 The Reward
When the class earns 50 points, they get a reward. For me, it’s no homework the following week. For you, it could be a movie, popcorn, or free time. Students love it—and they hold each other accountable!

⭐ Why It Works
This system makes classroom management a game. Students know the rules, they know the reward, and they work together to stay focused. Best of all—I don’t have to yell!
