📝 Smarter Grading: Save Time Every Day

Oct 18, 2025

When you became a teacher, you probably didn’t think grading would take over your life. But let’s do the math. If you teach 5 classes with 30 students each, that’s 150 assignments a day! Even at 1 minute per paper, that’s 2.5 hours of grading. 😳 That’s just not sustainable.

Here are a few tips that cut my grading down to about 30 minutes a day:

Don’t Grade Everything
You don’t need to give detailed feedback on every assignment. Try credit/no credit for daily work. A stamp, quick note, or checkmark works fine. The key is accountability, not perfection.

💻 Use Technology
Tools like Google Forms can grade quizzes and tests automatically. That’s time you get back immediately!

👩‍🎓 Let Students Grade Themselves
After notes or practice work, I have students count their own points. They get instant feedback, and I save hours. To double-check, I sometimes have another student verify the score the next period.

🎯 Focus on What Matters
By saving time on routine grading, I have more energy to give real feedback on important work like essays. That’s where students grow the most.

Final Thought
Grading doesn’t have to take over your life. Use quick checks, tech tools, and student help to free up your time—and focus on being the teacher your students need.
