What Did I Learn This Year AS A TEACHER?
Jun 14, 2025This school year taught me so much—not just about teaching, but about why I teach. After more than 20 years in the classroom, I’m still growing. And this year reminded me of three big lessons that every teacher—new or experienced—should remember.
👥 1. Relationships Matter Most
The best part of teaching is building real connections with students.
-
One student got excited about finances, read Rich Dad Poor Dad, and started his own business!
-
Another student is writing a book—80+ pages—and talks with me about it almost every day.
💬 These small moments reminded me that relationships fuel learning and motivation.
🧑🏫 2. Classroom Management Is Key
For two weeks, I stepped in as the dean of students.
-
I had to manage discipline for the whole school—over 1,000 kids!
-
What worked in my classroom (clear rules, expectations, routines) worked schoolwide too.
📋 Strong systems create safe spaces for students to grow.
⏳ 3. Teaching Takes Time
It took me 7 years to feel confident as a teacher.
-
But when former students come back to visit, it’s all worth it.
-
One even returned to perform a concert for our entire school!
🌱 We plant seeds now that bloom years later.
💡 Final Thought:
Teaching is hard—but stay in it. Your work matters more than you know.
