🍎 What Every Substitute Teacher Should Know to Get Called Back
Dec 20, 2025Being a substitute teacher is tough! 😅 You walk into a classroom where students don’t know you, the lesson plans might be missing, and the day can feel unpredictable. But here’s the good news — there are simple things you can do to make sure schools want you back! 🙌
Here are my Top 5 Tips for substitute teachers who want more jobs and happier days:
1️⃣ Bring Positive Energy! 🌞
Even if you’re nervous, smile and greet students kindly. A good attitude makes a big first impression.
2️⃣ Show Up Early. ⏰
Arriving 30 minutes before class gives you time to review the plans, find supplies, and feel ready.
3️⃣ Manage Behavior Calmly. 🧘♂️
Students may test you, but stay calm and fair. Praise good behavior, and handle problems with confidence.
4️⃣ Follow the Lesson Plan. 📚
Do your best to teach what’s left for you. Teachers love subs who keep things on track.
5️⃣ Clean Up Before You Leave. 🧹
Take a few minutes to tidy the room. When the teacher returns to a clean classroom, they’ll remember you!
If you follow these tips, you’ll not only survive subbing—you’ll thrive! 🌟
